Here are some pics of the invitations I made (though my boys hand picked each bug to go with them!).<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/S5sJj9v_qlI/AAAAAAAAAL0/al8BYN5cmdU/s1600-h/056.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/S5sJj9v_qlI/AAAAAAAAAL0/al8BYN5cmdU/s320/056.JPG" vt="true" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/S5sJe-3o_FI/AAAAAAAAALs/VCNc64DT9Ts/s1600-h/054.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/S5sJe-3o_FI/AAAAAAAAALs/VCNc64DT9Ts/s320/054.JPG" vt="true" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/S5sJsIBwfnI/AAAAAAAAAL8/-X9iZtu3GdU/s1600-h/058.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/S5sJsIBwfnI/AAAAAAAAAL8/-X9iZtu3GdU/s320/058.JPG" vt="true" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/S5sJUS8N6WI/AAAAAAAAALk/ODjVTI-XFe8/s1600-h/049.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/S5sJUS8N6WI/AAAAAAAAALk/ODjVTI-XFe8/s320/049.JPG" vt="true" /></a></div>erin@my little creative outlethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07191069370936254973noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8094995616302310966.post-26523284447775556702009-11-24T10:40:00.000-08:002009-11-24T10:42:51.107-08:00Puzzle Blocks<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SwwfEDzjqiI/AAAAAAAAAK4/W8Y8LpzWjCY/s1600/027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SwwfEDzjqiI/AAAAAAAAAK4/W8Y8LpzWjCY/s400/027.JPG" yr="true" /></a><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">These puzzle blocks were easy to do and turned out very cute!<br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">Supplies needed:<br />
</div><br />
9 Wooden blocks (I used 1 3/4" unfinished blocks, and lightly sanded them)<br />
6 pictures of the right size (mine needed to be 5 1/4" square)<br />
Mod Podge and foam brush<br />
paper cutter or scissors<br />
craft knife<br />
ruler<br />
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/Swwd0D2sHuI/AAAAAAAAAIo/Z6qAixI3yHg/s1600/008.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/Swwd0D2sHuI/AAAAAAAAAIo/Z6qAixI3yHg/s320/008.JPG" yr="true" /></a><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I laid out my blocks, I originally thought I would make a 4x4 puzzle but ended up deciding on a 3x3 puzzle instead. I bought these unfinshed, so they needed to be lightly sanded.also be aware that they may not all be perfect cubes, many of mine weren't.<br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">All of my pictures came from this book. It was exactly enough for two puzzles.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/Swwd5LzFxjI/AAAAAAAAAIw/6iLo1fM5VXQ/s1600/009.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/Swwd5LzFxjI/AAAAAAAAAIw/6iLo1fM5VXQ/s320/009.JPG" yr="true" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">I made a rough template that was 5 1/4" by 5 1/4" so that I could use it like a 'window' to get an idea of which of my pictures would work.<br />
</div><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/Swwd97W07mI/AAAAAAAAAI4/1qqfqoQfNfc/s1600/010.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/Swwd97W07mI/AAAAAAAAAI4/1qqfqoQfNfc/s320/010.JPG" yr="true" /></a><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SwweEA49l7I/AAAAAAAAAJA/DU198Lo7Vj4/s1600/011.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SwweEA49l7I/AAAAAAAAAJA/DU198Lo7Vj4/s320/011.JPG" yr="true" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SwweIUERP3I/AAAAAAAAAJI/JKFYhWEll44/s1600/012.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SwweIUERP3I/AAAAAAAAAJI/JKFYhWEll44/s320/012.JPG" yr="true" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;">I knew my blocks were 1 3/4 inches so I then used the paper cutter to make them into squares.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SwweVnDug5I/AAAAAAAAAJg/V594PGAPcqI/s1600/015.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SwweVnDug5I/AAAAAAAAAJg/V594PGAPcqI/s320/015.JPG" yr="true" /></a><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SwwebHzWh4I/AAAAAAAAAJo/26YdDwssFgM/s1600/016.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SwwebHzWh4I/AAAAAAAAAJo/26YdDwssFgM/s320/016.JPG" yr="true" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">Once that was done I simply Mod Podged them onto the blocks.<br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"> <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SwwefTVajEI/AAAAAAAAAJw/h7zNVpUYEu4/s1600/017.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SwwefTVajEI/AAAAAAAAAJw/h7zNVpUYEu4/s320/017.JPG" yr="true" /></a><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">You may notice that some of your picture pieces hang off the edge. <br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/Swwen71eepI/AAAAAAAAAKA/5TYqg0W63b4/s1600/019.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/Swwen71eepI/AAAAAAAAAKA/5TYqg0W63b4/s320/019.JPG" yr="true" /></a><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">Nearly all of mine did, at least a bit. I used a craft knife to cut off the excess, and later even scissors, I found that either way worked just fine and it wasn't a problem. though when you are applying your pictures try to make sure that the excess parts are not the really important parts, like the face.<br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">Continue this process until all of your pieces are applied. I found that all of them needed an additional coat of Mod Podge. <br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/Swwerw2hooI/AAAAAAAAAKI/bZke5_xQDYs/s1600/020.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/Swwerw2hooI/AAAAAAAAAKI/bZke5_xQDYs/s320/020.JPG" yr="true" /></a><br />

</div>My husband and I decided to do a homemade christmas this year and I have been busy the last few weeks trying to get as much done as I can before we go visit for Thanksgiving. <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">These blocks were simple to make, though time consuming waiting for coats to dry. I ordered unfinished 1 3/4" blocks online, it was much cheaper than buying them from a craft store. I lightly sanded them and painted them a cream color. I mod podged on some fun scrapbook paper and sanded some more. I think they turned out pretty cute!<br />

Not bad looking, but not what I wanted. (Isn't my son a cutie? He insisted on being in the picture.) I tried sanding it a little, but it isn't real wood and that wasn't working out so well, and wasn't doing much, so I did two coats of primer instead.<br />

I think it turned out SO cute! I wish this was for our home, but sadly, it has somewhere else to live. Luckily it is already out the door, or I may have changed my mind. I just love it!<br />

The other day I about DIED when I found this bag of "potpourri" at the local DI for ONE DOLLAR! I was so excited, it was such a rush and so cheap, practically felt like I was <em>stealing! </em>It was such a fun find! I have lots of neutrals in my home,but no purples or greens, I don't know what I am going to do with those. ---did you <strong>see</strong> those purple balls? how cute are those?? I <strong>need</strong> to find some where to use them! hmmm, maybe another giveaway? what do you think? should we have a vote?<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SsAZg5L-1aI/AAAAAAAAAFg/ARFROqE53xs/s1600-h/003.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" iq="true" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SsAZg5L-1aI/AAAAAAAAAFg/ARFROqE53xs/s400/003.JPG" /></a><br />

</div>This is a project I did about a year ago. I made enough blocks to be able to spell out each month. There are a total of 27 blocks and they are 5 1/2 inches square, and 1 1/2 inches deep. I thoroughly sanded each block (this part took the longest). Then I painted each block and distressed all of the edges. I mod podged a letter on each block. (though in hindsight I would probably do a letter on each side to cut down on the number of blocks, but that would take a lot of figuring out which letters you never need together!) This is an easy project, but it is time consuming. If you want to try this yourself you may want to do a month at a time and build up your 'collection' as you go. <br />
<br />
break down of the blocks you need<br />
<br />
A 2 B 1 C 1 D 1 E 3 F 1 G 1 H 1 I 1 J 1 L 1 M 1 N 1 O 2 P 1 R 2 S 1 T 1 U 2 V 1 Y 1 total 27<br />
<br />
I think this would be cute with some scrapbook paper behind the letters too. My taste is more simple, and that is why I chose to do it this way. If you do attempt this, please email me pics, I would love to see your version!erin@my little creative outlethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07191069370936254973noreply@blogger.com8tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8094995616302310966.post-50125272841378961822009-09-22T08:53:00.000-07:002009-09-22T08:53:26.714-07:00no winner?Well, I haven't heard from the giveaway winner and it has been 24 hours. I was so impressed and I have been wanting to have a charging station <em>forever. </em>I was so excited when the next time I was at DI and I spotted a bread box. I was so excited, I <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">immediately</span> remembered the blog post I had seen and just had to buy this nasty, dirty bread box. It was $3. When I brought it home my husband thought I was insane for buying something so <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">grody</span>, but I had big plans for it!<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376611825377497186" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/Sp2P9_rKUGI/AAAAAAAABFc/E9Cr9cEzZEc/s400/044.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 348px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376611826988041954" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/Sp2P-FrJRuI/AAAAAAAABFk/daYRyC0Fjgg/s400/043.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 400px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 300px;" />First I cleaned it as well as I could. I actually had to get a <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">scraper</span> out it was so gross. I also used some Pledge on it, it made a big difference. Still was ugly, but at least it was clean! Next I disassembled it. Not hard. Just unscrewed the hinges and took the staple out of the plastic that held in the glass. I originally thought I would put some fabric or paper over the glass but as I was cleaning it I decided to try the scraper on it and it worked like magic. (I placed the glass on a green towel) This was hardly any effort at all. Hubby cut a small hole in the back and then it was time for paint! <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376611846411676818" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/Sp2P_OCGbJI/AAAAAAAABF0/HiW_wDeqbmI/s400/048.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 400px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 300px;" /><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376611838938521250" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/Sp2P-yMXHqI/AAAAAAAABFs/xgINrzJITuw/s400/049.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 400px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 300px;" /><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376611855824583426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/Sp2P_xGT-wI/AAAAAAAABF8/jTvdi5msxwI/s400/050.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 400px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 300px;" /> I primed it. Twice. <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376612458176643890" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/Sp2Qi1CPAzI/AAAAAAAABGE/STkFuBifhLU/s400/051.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 400px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 300px;" /> I originally thought I would paint it black, but I have SO much black, I thought maybe I should pick up more of my accent color, maroon. So, I painted the inside black and the outside maroon. I did two coats of each. (this picture is after my first coat) <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376612468748842786" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/Sp2Qjca19yI/AAAAAAAABGM/onM6NlOVqUI/s400/054.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 400px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 300px;" /><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376612476994213778" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/Sp2Qj7IsV5I/AAAAAAAABGU/EB_cWXanB9A/s400/055.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 312px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376612483548542738" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/Sp2QkTjXdxI/AAAAAAAABGc/VJSiPtvMTA4/s400/056.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" /><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5376612494253584962" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/Sp2Qk7bpckI/AAAAAAAABGk/ep-10AkmmPs/s400/058.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 400px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 300px;" />I waited a few days and the reassembled it. I took the knob from my stash, it is from one of the dressers that I re-did. I just used the original hinges, though I think I will eventually replace the knob and the hinges. I put a power strip inside the box and then put our <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">internet</span> box and phone chargers in it as well. I am LOVING it. I am considering distressing the edges, but I am scared to! Maybe another day?<br />

Here is a brief step-by-step of my quick makeover.<br />
<div><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375219702962639938" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/Spid1zjE1EI/AAAAAAAABEc/PAs4iWWqIHo/s400/033.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 334px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" />This is what it looked like originally, I want to apologize for the poor pictures, I had to use my phone. It was very dirty, and quite dull. It was simple to clean, looked brand new after just a little Windex.<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375219713152413490" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/Spid2ZggbzI/AAAAAAAABEk/kA2Wh8WKEeY/s400/037.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 300px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" />I simply spray painted the plate. I did two coats on the top and one on the bottom. <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375219725140230178" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/Spid3GKoACI/AAAAAAAABE0/okNTu97MetE/s400/061.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 293px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 400px;" />The after. I am very happy how it turned out. It is just my taste. It is simple and graceful and fits perfectly with my <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">pre</span>-existing decor.<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/Spid2sw0wbI/AAAAAAAABEs/LMnT-AdfNq0/s1600-h/066.jpg"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5375219718321127858" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/Spid2sw0wbI/AAAAAAAABEs/LMnT-AdfNq0/s400/066.jpg" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 400px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 300px;" /></a><br />
My quick attempt at decorating with it. Still not sure what I will put in it. This will do for a few days though.</div>erin@my little creative outlethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07191069370936254973noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8094995616302310966.post-32992618818704738982009-09-10T08:58:00.000-07:002009-09-16T14:34:13.500-07:00How To: make stuffed pumpkins<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqlT2Nt3V8I/AAAAAAAAADc/xg88X4HwWs4/s1600-h/153.JPG"><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379923420730841026" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqlT2Nt3V8I/AAAAAAAAADc/xg88X4HwWs4/s320/153.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 190px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 370px;" /></a> <br />

Skill Level:</div><div>Easy<br />
<br />
Time:</div><div><div>30 minutes or less</div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>Supplies needed: </div><ul><li>up to a yard of your favorite fabric ( I like a light cotton with a fall colored print)</li>
<li>contrasting (but coordinating) embroidery floss</li>
<li>dental floss</li>
<li>quilting needle</li>
<li>scissors</li>
<li>floral wire (and something to wrap it around, a pen or chopstick or something)</li>
<li>fake leaves (grape or ivy leaves work well)</li>
<li>glue gun with glue stick</li>
<li>stuffing (old pillows work great, or of course poly <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_0">fil</span>)</li>
<li>small stump (slice of a branch or twig)</li>
</ul><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379873047891878322" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqkmCIRLIbI/AAAAAAAAABc/2nMYYRrgGzU/s320/107.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" />Lay out you fabric and cut it into a square. I started with a yard and folded it over. I ended up making it smaller though, about a 2 foot square. <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379873057700612114" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqkmCszwiBI/AAAAAAAAABk/-3kyQRordMg/s320/108.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" />Start cutting, I cut a few inches and tear it the rest of the way. <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379873066638867682" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqkmDOGzfOI/AAAAAAAAABs/DoOFWrcCd7k/s320/109.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" />Thread your dental floss through your quilting needle and tear off a <span class="blsp-spelling-error" id="SPELLING_ERROR_1">looooooooong</span> piece (I would guess about 4 feet long, depending on the size of your pumpkin). Take the ends together and tie a knot, tie several more knots over this one to make sure it is very strong and tight . Now, start at a midpoint in your fabric, about a quarter inch from the edge and begin going in and out. I am not sure what this stitch is called, maybe a gathering stitch? Do this around all four edges and gather loosely as you go. <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379873072617711874" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqkmDkYRaQI/AAAAAAAAAB0/bc1FFCp8DqE/s320/110.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379873083350974706" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqkmEMXSAPI/AAAAAAAAAB8/RxrUgT7Ctjs/s320/111.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379875659456808898" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqkoaJGxh8I/AAAAAAAAACE/TTqZA_0XFYU/s320/113.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /> Once you get to the starting point again loop through the <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_2">beginning</span>. Just in front of the knot, and between the two <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_3">pieces</span> of floss. Does that make sense? <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379875666397221378" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/Sqkoai9f0gI/AAAAAAAAACM/aF1cvNCLHdo/s320/114.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" />Don't tie off just yet, and don't gather it tightly yet. This is what it will look like at this point. <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379875680215154770" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqkobWb8wFI/AAAAAAAAACU/RwBiNgPD3c8/s320/116.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" />Now we begin stuffing. <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379875685280526898" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqkobpToMjI/AAAAAAAAACc/viUtHnchTts/s320/117.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" />You want to stuff this FULL, as full as you can make it. Pay special attention to the corners. You will need to tighten as you do this, and it can be a little tough. <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379875694656184322" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqkocMO9YAI/AAAAAAAAACk/jvOwuMOyZt8/s320/122.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /> Once it is full you can begin stitching it closed. I go back and forth both ways a few times. Then tie it off and cut it. <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379872119218983618" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqklMEsTUsI/AAAAAAAAABU/fsLFMOwnTbM/s320/127.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379870429348447266" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqkjptbxRCI/AAAAAAAAAAs/CokNBEh1PTw/s320/141.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /> Now pull out your embroidery floss. You will need a lot of this, depending on the size you make yours. For this one, I think I used about 2/3 of the thread. find the middle of your thread and PULL it diagonally over two 'bumps'.<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379872110137786514" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqklLi3LQJI/AAAAAAAAABM/MLkuteWNvfc/s320/129.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379870418698392546" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqkjpFwmU-I/AAAAAAAAAAk/IyrQSLNkEgU/s320/142.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /><img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379872103183492082" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqklLI9JI_I/AAAAAAAAABE/WchkfIKsl8A/s320/130.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /> Then while holding the thread flip over your pumpkin. You will need to pull this VERY tightly so as to make it look pumpkin-like, be careful not to do it too tightly or your thread will break.<img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379872091527874914" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqklKdiOiWI/AAAAAAAAAA8/tUpknjCf9EM/s320/131.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /> Cross your thread over itself and onto the other two 'bumps'. Again, very tightly. <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379872082538316082" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqklJ8C8wTI/AAAAAAAAAA0/k9oDvfCxYoQ/s320/132.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /> Flip it over again. Cross them again, this time going in the 'creases'. Flip upside down again and cross them UNDERNEATH the previous <span class="blsp-spelling-corrected" id="SPELLING_ERROR_4">pieces</span>. This way they pull together in a group and kinda make a <span style="font-size: 180%;">*</span> shape on the bottom of the pumpkin. <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379923408190700562" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqlT1fAD_BI/AAAAAAAAADU/OElK0pI17ps/s320/158.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" />Make sure the thread is in the last two 'creases' and flip back over so the pumpkin is right side up. Once everything is tightened to your liking, tie it off and cut your thread. It should look like this right now. Don't worry if it looks lopsided or imperfect. It simply adds to it's cuteness! <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379870411406685330" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqkjoqmHtJI/AAAAAAAAAAc/FZX8kDINYAA/s320/144.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /> Now, take a piece of the floral wire and twist it around something, I used a chopstick, but it could be a pen or anything that you have handy. Feel free to do more than one piece if you want to. <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379870402642038658" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqkjoJ8dz4I/AAAAAAAAAAU/fk0gs0i6sf4/s320/145.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /> Figure out where you will want your wire, leaves and stump to go before you glue. <img alt="" border="0" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5379870393067536578" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_DtT13S4LFLU/SqkjnmRugMI/AAAAAAAAAAM/LG0s2meU-uU/s320/146.JPG" style="cursor: hand; display: block; height: 240px; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center; width: 320px;" /> Then glue them on and you are done!<br />

Now I am. My inspiration came from one of my favorite websites <a href="http://thriftydecorchick.blogspot.com/2009/02/twenty-minutes-and-ten-bucks.html">thrifty decor chick</a>. She has such an awesome site, you really should check her out. Anyway here is my version. Today I finally got around to it and I am really pleased with the results. I have several more projects that need to be done, but it is always nice to get one actually finished!<img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5305407087109984866" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/SaCXovAH0mI/AAAAAAAAAv0/bPc-GWrCtxE/s400/001.JPG" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5305407083067478690" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/SaCXof8UEqI/AAAAAAAAAvs/vcc3NDuqD6c/s400/006.JPG" />erin@my little creative outlethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07191069370936254973noreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8094995616302310966.post-4991296678928462162008-11-15T14:31:00.000-08:002009-09-10T08:31:24.762-07:00J's baby showerToday we had J's baby shower, so of course I <em>HAD</em> to make her a diaper cake. Her nursery colors are light pink and brown, so I made one accordingly. I think it is my best yet. What do you think? <a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/SR9cs4mN1TI/AAAAAAAAAiw/N7GZtrngUZg/s1600-h/005.JPG"></a>By the way J is EIGHT months pregnant here. Unbelievable, right?<br /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5269032854586113410" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/SR9ddvd3vYI/AAAAAAAAAjA/VdYaf6h6sl8/s400/005.JPG" /><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; WIDTH: 300px; DISPLAY: block; HEIGHT: 400px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5269032846069476370" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/SR9ddPvWLBI/AAAAAAAAAi4/11C7onuLQM0/s400/003.JPG" />I really enjoy making these, so much so that I am thinking about selling some on craigslist or something. I have been wanting to for awhile and we saw a kit in <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_1" class="blsp-spelling-error">Wal</span>-Mart the other day so we thought it would be fun, and easier than trying to construct one myself.<br /><br />I don't know if it was an operator error or what but I am sorely disappointed about how our house turned out.<br /><br />We (meaning me) were not able to do nearly as detailed work as the box promised us. And apparently I need to have some lessons in how to frost. I think it looks pretty sad. Plus it didn't help that the candy ghost was broken before I had finished piping the windows (thanks <span style="BACKGROUND-COLOR: #ffff00">L</span>). Just for your <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_3" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">amusement</span> I have posted a picture of ours and a picture of what we were trying to <span id="SPELLING_ERROR_4" class="blsp-spelling-corrected">achieve</span>. yeah. have a good laugh.<br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/SOlqtmir0aI/AAAAAAAAAe8/_HaIyeeKTds/s1600-h/001.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 215px; HEIGHT: 170px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253847771977077154" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/SOlqtmir0aI/AAAAAAAAAe8/_HaIyeeKTds/s400/001.JPG" width="184" height="186" /></a><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/SOlqtrTgrwI/AAAAAAAAAfE/71VHzYwJHAo/s1600-h/004.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 150px; HEIGHT: 170px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253847773255610114" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/SOlqtrTgrwI/AAAAAAAAAfE/71VHzYwJHAo/s400/004.JPG" width="210" height="309" /></a>erin@my little creative outlethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07191069370936254973noreply@blogger.com6tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8094995616302310966.post-9366732537778243502008-10-03T21:48:00.000-07:002009-09-10T08:33:53.185-07:00Stuffed PumpkinsI am not sure what has come over me but lately I have such an overwhelming need to be creative and make things. I am very lucky to have a MIL who is the queen of crafty and is very willing to teach me anything I want to know. This week she taught me how to make stuffed pumpkins. I had a great time, and I think they turned out very cute. Plus it was super easy! I have more than these, but these are the only ones completely done.<br /><br /><div><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/SOb1_DJVIFI/AAAAAAAAAeM/phFFN0OpLcw/s1600-h/003.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 257px; HEIGHT: 195px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253156478899265618" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/SOb1_DJVIFI/AAAAAAAAAeM/phFFN0OpLcw/s400/003.JPG" width="257" height="171" /></a> Before pic of the chosen fabrics.<br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/SOb1_Qo6FuI/AAAAAAAAAeU/iDuHMWVjSXk/s1600-h/009.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 270px; HEIGHT: 209px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253156482521372386" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/SOb1_Qo6FuI/AAAAAAAAAeU/iDuHMWVjSXk/s400/009.JPG" width="402" height="304" /></a><br /><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/SOb1_mlgHKI/AAAAAAAAAec/1B_n5BHYT9k/s1600-h/010.JPG"><img style="WIDTH: 269px; HEIGHT: 198px; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5253156488412667042" border="0" alt="" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/SOb1_mlgHKI/AAAAAAAAAec/1B_n5BHYT9k/s400/010.JPG" width="269" height="240" /></a> This one is my favorite.</div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div></div><div>I don't know what I will do for my next project. C and J have now had their baby. SIL S helped me pick out the items and my sister J "assisted" me with assembly (read: J made the bows!) It was probably the hardest one I have made simply because we used more colors than I normally do. I was originally going to only use red and blue but the only ribbon I could find with red and blue also had white and I was not going for a patriotic cake! So we went with bright primary colors. I was getting so frustrated because it just wasn't looking right and J suggested that we switch the yellow ribbon that we had tied around the middle for a red one and that made all the difference in the world. (See I let her help!) I am actually very pleased with it now. I think my favorite cake so far was my first, the pink and green one. Probably because I want a baby girl so much!erin@my little creative outlethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07191069370936254973noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8094995616302310966.post-64146876350744110042008-04-01T21:06:00.000-07:002009-09-10T08:37:40.120-07:00Another diaper cake! yeah!<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/R_MGouNi0xI/AAAAAAAAASA/CEY8RDFTHKU/s1600-h/100_0686+tiff+cake+crop.jpg"><img style="CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5184494892702946066" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/R_MGouNi0xI/AAAAAAAAASA/CEY8RDFTHKU/s400/100_0686+tiff+cake+crop.jpg" /></a><br /><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/R_MGpeNi0yI/AAAAAAAAASI/cetSsXn8GI0/s1600-h/100_0688+tiff+cake+crop+back.jpg"><img style="CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5184494905587847970" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/R_MGpeNi0yI/AAAAAAAAASI/cetSsXn8GI0/s400/100_0688+tiff+cake+crop+back.jpg" /></a><br /><div>I told you I was making another one for my best friend T, and here it is! She is having twin boys so I made this one taller. My sisters J and B both came over to help with this one (they are going to the shower with me). I didn't let them help very much, J did all the bows (don't they look great?) She also helped roll the diapers and open packages, B opened packages and rolled a few diapers. Though to be fair to them I am SURE they would have helped a lot more if I had let them, problem is I enjoy putting it all together too much! Such fun! Can't wait to make another one! I have only done the top, still have most of it to go, but you get the idea. I also put the candy inside. Fun Fun!--By the way, I was planning on doing this in white and brown but for some reason there is no brown tissue paper to be found, I even went to a craft store and party store, oh well.<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/R867vqYmyVI/AAAAAAAAAOA/YKl6eqDUJ8Q/s1600-h/100_0519.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; DISPLAY: block; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5174279449401018706" border="0" alt="" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/R867vqYmyVI/AAAAAAAAAOA/YKl6eqDUJ8Q/s320/100_0519.jpg" /></a><br /><a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/R867waYmyWI/AAAAAAAAAOI/8fVX1oJUVHs/s1600-h/100_0520.jpg"><img style="TEXT-ALIGN: center; MARGIN: 0px auto 10px; DISPLAY: block; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5174279462285920610" border="0" alt="" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/R867waYmyWI/AAAAAAAAAOI/8fVX1oJUVHs/s320/100_0520.jpg" /></a><br /><div></div>erin@my little creative outlethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07191069370936254973noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8094995616302310966.post-10245095005777264342008-02-27T19:04:00.000-08:002009-09-10T08:39:55.688-07:00Pinata ProgressB's 1st birthday is coming up real soon and I decided that it would be fun to make a pinata for the party. I have not made a pinata since middle school, but I am still hoping that I will be able to manage it. I decided on a guitar shaped pinata, and I made the frame for it last night. Today L and I put on the first coat of paper mache, there will of course be several more to follow. Here is a picture of the progress thus far. --Also if any of you have pinata tips I would love to hear them!<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/R8YmGjMD0bI/AAAAAAAAAN4/WItIzJlkd9E/s1600-h/100_0510+crop.jpg"><img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px; FLOAT: left; CURSOR: hand" id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5171863116048486834" border="0" alt="" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/_MO5JpS4qTsk/R8YmGjMD0bI/AAAAAAAAAN4/WItIzJlkd9E/s320/100_0510+crop.jpg" /></a>erin@my little creative outlethttp://www.blogger.com/profile/07191069370936254973noreply@blogger.com5
